Molasses is a fixture of Kuwaiti gatherings, and the difference between a great session and an ordinary one usually comes down to three things: the brand, the flavour, and how you set it up. This guide covers the main brands we stock with their prices, what molasses is actually made of, the gear you need, and how to prepare a clean hookah step by step.
The best-known molasses brands in Kuwait
The Kuwaiti market revolves around four main brands, each with its own character in flavour strength and session length:
Al Waha
The most widely used in Kuwait. Balanced flavours at accessible prices, with a wide range of fruits and mint blends. Available in standard tins and by the kilo.
Al Fakher
A long-established Emirati brand known for flavour consistency and leaf quality. Double Apple and Lemon Mint are among its best-known options worldwide.
Mazaya
Concentrated flavours with more obvious sweetness, especially in grape, berry and strawberry. An excellent choice if you like a strong flavour.
Nakhla (Zaghloul)
Known for a traditional, distinctly Middle Eastern Double Apple. A good fit if you want a classic taste that is not overly sweet.

What molasses is made of
Molasses is not just tobacco — it is a blend of four core ingredients, and the ratio between them decides how strong the session is and how much smoke you get:

Setting up a hookah, step by step
- Fill the base. Enough water that the end of the downstem sits 2 to 3 cm below the surface — any deeper and the draw gets hard.
- Loosen the molasses and pack the bowl. Spread it lightly and keep it about two millimetres below the rim. Do not press it down: packing blocks the airflow and burns the flavour.
- Cover with foil and pierce it. Pull the foil tight and make small, even holes — or use pre-perforated foil directly.
- Light the charcoal properly. Until it is fully red with no black left, then place it around the edges rather than in the centre.
- Move the charcoal every 10 minutes and replace it once it turns to ash. Rotating the coals spreads the heat and makes the flavour last.
